Joel Becker is a general photographer or "Jack of all" image making. He started his career in photography in the U.S. Navy in 1970. A good job to have while the country is having a "police activity" in a pacific area jungle country.
Upon discharge he started as an assistant to Tayler Lewis in Norfolk, Virginia. Taylor was shooting editorial food photographs for Southern Living Magazine, architectural illustrations for Colonial Williamsburg, and product photography for advertising agencies while finding enough time to create picture books such as "Christmas in New England", "Washingtons' Mount Vernon", "Window on Williamsburg", "Christmas in the Southwest" and "Spirit Up the People" a tribute to the bi-centennial and North Carolina. Three and a half years of O.J.T.
While teaching photography at Tidewater Community College he managed to develop his own studio while watching his family grow.
